In any civilization in our world, martial arts have always been a crucial component. This includes Filipino martial arts, Judo, Japanese Karate, Chinese Kung-Fu, Baritsu, Western Boxing, and much more.  

Thus, knowing an excellent set of punches and moves to apply for self-defense stays relevant, regardless of what environment and times you live in.  

So, before you enroll in a Washington DC Kung Fu club, here are a couple of most common martial arts in the United States. 

Muay Thai 

This martial art was founded in Thailand and is also called the “Art of 8 Limbs”. Muay Thai greatly uses fighting techniques such as elbows, knees, kicks, and punches in creating an attack. This martial art can be extremely brutal and violent. However, it has become more common nowadays because of a lot of safeguards.  

Krav Maga 

This type of martial art originated in an independent Israel after World War 2. Krav Maga is practiced universally by both the police and the army. It has been designed for the intention of survival in the street and it’s taught to the country’s whole defense force. Krav Maga integrates a couple of elements of the ground fighting and grappling of Jiu-jitsu, traditional boxing punches, and karate knees and kicks.  

Wrestling

Traditional Western Boxing

They aren’t as heavy or thick as bodybuilders since they greatly count on their agility.  

BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) 

This is a comprehensive and complicated martial art. It is distinctive for its aggressive and vicious techniques. Taekwondo 

This is Korean martial art. Taekwondo balances both attack and self-defense as a way of physical fitness workout and sport. Its set of fighting moves concentrates on quick hand movements and high kicks. This martial art is based upon the belief that the leg is the furthest reaching and strongest limb that an individual has. Therefore, it has the best possibility to be utilized as a strong weapon. Also, in this martial art, it is emphasized that using your leg as the primary weapon of choice can keep your attacker at a distance. Thus, it can be used as self-defense.
